The federal Teachers Scheme FST is a scheme piloted by the Federal Government which seeks to help States in Nigeria recruits qualify teachers for basic primary school education located in rural areas in Nigeria. There is every need to bridge the gap that exist right now in the education sector.

There are few numbers of qualified teachers in basic primary schools today. According to the ministry of education, there are about 42 million pupils in basic schools on their record and the government has to do more in recruiting teachers to meet the shortfall.

In his words he said “public schools have problems in terms of numbers that must be solved by employing more teachers to cover the the population of students they have”
Currently the federal and state Government only have just 1.4 teachers present in the system and there is a huge shortfall.

The federal Government through the ministry of education has tasked all states Government to create the enabling environment to absorb or engage all FTS employees while on the other hand UBEC has the responsibility of training the teachers based on world standard.

14,000 candidates sit for Federal Teachers Scheme exams

The update today is that over 14,000 applicants wrote the federal Teachers Scheme exams nationwide. The facilities of JAMB was used to conduct the exam.

The main purpose of conducting the exams is to ensure that only qualified teachers who pass the exams are recruited into FST and deployed to their respective states for teaching Jobs.

After the exams there shall be screening exercise for all candidates where their certificate will be screened to ascertain if they are authentic or not, only then will the training commence.

Please note that each state has a slot of 100 candidates, this means that a total of 3700 candidates will emerge at the end of the exams.
